We were open 3 hrs/day, mon-fri, providing a wide range of play types and activities for local children aged 5-12yrs. The service was open access play provision with children free to choose their level of participation in any of the activities.

By providing stimulating activities for the children we promoted healthy development in physical, social, educational and creative abilities.

Skilled playworkers were a part of the physical play environment, facilitating and supervising the play activities ensuring safety and inclusion.

New activities were introduced using loose play parts purchased from the Community Ward Fund, children helped set up climbing nets and rope swings before the sessions.

We provided healthy snacks and fruit for the children as many arrived at the scheme hungry, without having had breakfasts. By addressing this primary need children were able to participate fully in the activities and gain the maximum benefit. Food was provided by Fairshare.

We consider the project to have been a success based on feedback from children and parents/carers, regular attendances, enthusiastic children waiting at the doors to start the session, good representation of gender, ethnicity and disability, observation and appreciation of Childrens achievements (including showing co-operation, empathy, tolerance and inclusion), no injuries or accidents, happy children, happy staff. What did you think? We’d love to hear your comments.
